What is a Nurse Practitioner?

Nurse Practitioners are the lead primary care providers of the clinics interprofessional team of health care providers. NP’s assess, diagnose, treat and monitor an extensive variation of illness and disease within their scope of practice. NP’s use a holistic approach when treating patients of all ages, focusing on both mental and physical health. NP’s take the time to educate their patients on how to manage chronic disease and collaborate with other allied health professionals to assist patients to lead a healthy life. Engaging patients as full partners in their care plan is an important aspect of the underlying philosophy of Nurse Practitioner Led Clinics.

You can learn more about Nurse Practitioners at the Nurse Practitioners Association of Ontario.
